What is Sustainability Management?

Sustainability Management enhances the organization's strategic performance.  Setting goals towards eco-optimized performance postures the organization to:

  • mitigate or eliminate risk;
  • communicate green goodwill;
  • and seek a competative market advantage while preparing the organization for the post-industrial (green / sustainable) economy.

Driven by the organization’s strategic objectives, performance improvement may include energy technologies, mobility technologies, built environment and human factors, sustainable landscaping, renewable resourcing, carbon and water footprint management as well as business processes.

The Sustainability Management Plan (SMP),sometimes called a Green Action Plan:

  • identifies the organization’s goals and objectives;
  • inserts performance improvement technology,
  • and guides the organization  while measuring performance, quality, and success against strategic objectives.

Ideally, the SMP  deploys a technology-insertion protocol to tailor peformance improvement steps to the organization’s strategic objectives and goals.  As important for process-mature organizations, the SMP will seamlessly integrate with any existing organizational improvement and measurement protocol: CMMI, Balanced Scorecard, LEAN, Six Sigma.

Depending on the scope of the project, the Sustainability Manager will perform or coordinate the following phases:

  • Assessment
  • Action Planning and Implementation
  • Training and Communications
  • Measurement & Analysis
